  • Can I drive afterwards? Yes.  Some patients do prefer a friend of relative to drive for them.
  • Can I exercise post infusion? Yes. Some of our professional athletes attend for an iron infusion between training sessions. We recommend listening to your body and only exercise if you feel up to it.
  • Can I fly or go on holiday post infusion? Yes. There are no contraindications to flying post infusion. 
  • Can I have an infusion still if I feel unwell? We would advise against an infusion if you have an active infection or are feeling unwell. Please contact our team and we can rebook for a future date. 
  • How much does it cost? Please see our contact page for general pricing
  • What iron formulation do you use? There are two main formulations, Ferric derisomaltose and ferric carboxymaltose. We have both options available and can discuss this in the consultation 
  • What dose of iron do I need? The dose you require is calculated based on your weight, the cause and severity of your iron deficiency and the maximum safe dose limits. We discuss this at consultation.
  • What is a standard dose of iron? 1000mg. Most patients experience a significant benefit from this dose, however depending on the severity and cause you may be offered a bigger dose.  There is an additional charge for this. Please see contact and pricing page.
  • How long does an infusion lasts for? Again, this depends on the cause and severity. Most patients only need one infusion however you may need another after 1-2 years, or a top up within a year. 
  • How long does the appointment take? We advise to allow one hour 
  • Can I drive return to work / daily activities straight away? Yes.
  • If I have a consult and infusion together is this the same price?  Yes. We offer a one stop option for convenience. you will receive an information leaflet and list of side effects to read before and we will cover everything that would be discussed in a separate consultation.   
  • How long potential side effects may last for? Side effects are can include feel flu like effects for 48 hours in about 10% of patients. In rare cases this can last several days to week but always resolves. We will always reply to questions post infusion if you have any concerns.
  • What is the average increase of ferritin levels is after the infusion? This is difficult to say for certain as it is affected by many factors. We cover this in the consultation but most patient's ferritin levels are in the hundreds post infusion.
