He has a specialist interest in Peri-operative Medicine and established the first dedicated intravenous iron service for NHS patients undergoing surgery in Gloucestershire, with over 10 years experience delivering intravenous iron therapy.

Dr Murdoch is the Principal Investigator for several research studies into the effects of intravenous iron and treatment of anaemia in patients undergoing surgery. He has chaired meetings and seminars on the effects of iron deficiency anaemia and frequently presents on this subject. He has been an invited attendee at international meetings and conferences on anaemia and iron therapies. He has also been an invited member of national advisory board meetings on perioperative anaemia management.  He regularly sees first-hand the impact of iron deficiency anaemia on patients undergoing surgery as well as the benefits of intravenous iron replacement and feels passionately about the effectiveness of this treatment and its benefits.
